The deal, in plain words.
What you're buying, what your parent controls, how the texts work, and how to stop any of it.
1. What Etta is
Etta places scheduled phone calls to an older adult — usually the parent of the person paying — has a short, honest conversation, and sends the family a summary afterwards. Etta identifies itself as an AI at the start of every call and never pretends otherwise.
Etta is a wellbeing and companionship service. It is not a medical device, not medical advice, not a diagnostic tool, and not an emergency response service. Do not rely on Etta to detect or respond to an emergency. If someone is in danger, call your local emergency number.
2. Your parent decides, not you
You can set the service up, but it does not begin until the person being called personally agrees on a recorded setup call. They may end it at any time by telling Etta to stop during any call. When they do, calls stop immediately, the subscription is cancelled, and you are notified. Paying for the service does not give you the right to have someone called who has not agreed, or who has withdrawn their agreement.
You confirm that you have the standing to arrange these calls and that the phone numbers you enter are yours to give — your own mobile number, and a number at which it is appropriate to reach the person you named.
3. Plans, trial and billing
Etta is offered as a monthly subscription. Current plans and prices are shown on the pricing page. The first 14 days are free, and you are not charged at all until the person being called says yes. If they decline, or setup is never completed, the trial cancels itself and nothing is billed.
After the trial, the subscription renews monthly until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from the billing portal or by writing to hello@ettacalls.com; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and consent being withdrawn cancels the subscription immediately. Payments are processed by Stripe.
4. The Etta Check-in Notifications messaging program
Program name: Etta Check-in Notifications.
Program description: a recurring transactional alert program that texts the account holder a short summary after each scheduled check-in call, an alert when the person could not be reached, and account status notices — for example when the person being called opts in or asks Etta to stop, and when that changes the subscription. This program sends no marketing or promotional messages.
How you join: you opt in at ettacalls.com/signup by entering your own mobile number and ticking the consent box. The box is not pre-ticked. Because the check-in notes are delivered by text, agreeing to these transactional messages is necessary to use Etta — but we send no marketing or promotional messages on this program, and you can stop the texts at any time by replying STOP. There is no text-to-join keyword.
Message frequency: message frequency varies with your call schedule — approximately one message per scheduled check-in call, plus occasional alerts and account notices.
Cost: Etta does not charge for these messages, but message and data rates may apply from your mobile carrier.
To stop: reply STOP to any message from Etta at any time. You will receive one final confirmation, and no further messages will be sent to that number. You may also write to hello@ettacalls.com and we will remove your number. Stopping the texts does not cancel your subscription or stop the calls to your parent — tell us if you want those stopped too.
For help: reply HELP to any message from Etta, email hello@ettacalls.com, or call (762) 239-4275.
Carriers: mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery is not guaranteed and can be affected by your carrier, your handset, and network conditions — please do not treat the absence of a message as assurance that all is well.
How we handle your number is described in our privacy policy. In short: no mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
5. Calls are recorded
Check-in calls and the setup consent call are recorded and transcribed so that summaries can be produced and so that consent can be proven. The person being called is told this plainly before they agree, and reminded when required. If you or they would rather not be recorded, Etta is not the right service.
6. Fair use of the service
Don't use Etta to contact someone who has not agreed to be contacted, to harass or monitor anyone against their wishes, for any unlawful purpose, or to attempt to disrupt the service. One subscription covers calls to one person. We may suspend or end an account that breaks these rules, and we will refund any unused portion when we do.
7. What we promise, and what we don't
We work hard to place every scheduled call and deliver every summary, but we depend on phone networks, carriers, and third-party providers, and the service is provided "as is" without warranty of uninterrupted or error-free operation. Summaries are generated by an AI system from a single conversation; they can be incomplete or mistaken, and they are not a clinical assessment. Use your own judgement, and stay in touch with your parent yourself.
To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
8. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you, we'll tell you by text or email before it takes effect, and continuing to use Etta afterwards means you accept the updated terms. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
