What we know, and what we'd never do with it.
Etta is trusted with conversations between an aging parent and an AI. That deserves a privacy policy written to be read, not to be survived.
The short version
We collect what's needed to place a check-in call and tell your family how it went — names, phone numbers, the call schedule, and the conversation itself. We use it to run the service you're paying for, and for nothing else. We don't sell it, we don't rent it, we don't advertise against it, and we don't hand your phone number to anyone for marketing. Your parent can end the whole thing by saying so on any call.
Who we are
Etta ("Etta", "we", "us") operates the ettacalls.com website and the Etta check-in calling service. You can reach a person at hello@ettacalls.com, or by texting or calling (762) 239-4275.
What we collect
From the account holder — the adult family member who signs up and pays: your name, your mobile phone number, and your payment details. Payment card data goes directly to our payment processor, Stripe; we never see or store full card numbers.
About the person receiving calls — usually a parent: their first or preferred name, their phone number, the time zone and time of day they want to be called, and any context you choose to add so Etta can hold a warmer conversation.
From the calls themselves: a recording and a transcript of each check-in call, and the short summary we generate from it — overall mood, whether they mentioned eating, sleeping, or medication, and anything that seemed worth flagging. Consent calls, in which your parent personally agrees to the service, are recorded as the legal record of that consent.
Ordinary technical data: basic server logs and delivery receipts for the calls and texts we send.
We do not ask for, and ask that you do not send us, government identifiers, financial account details, or formal medical records.
How we use it
- To place the scheduled check-in calls your parent agreed to.
- To produce the summary after each call and text it to the family members your parent approved.
- To notice when a call went unanswered and work through the escalation contacts you chose.
- To show the family view — the mood trend and per-call notes behind your private link.
- To take payment, handle the trial, and stop billing when the service stops.
- To keep the record of consent that the law requires us to keep.
We do not use conversations to sell you anything, and Etta never carries advertising or promotional content into a call. That's a promise we've put in writing on our pledge page.
Text messages and your mobile number
When you give us your mobile number and check the consent box at signup, we text you the notes after each check-in call, alerts when your parent couldn't be reached, and account notices such as when your parent opts in or out.
No mobile information is sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text-messaging originator opt-in data and consent are never shared with any third party for those purposes. Phone numbers are shared only with the messaging providers who deliver the message on our behalf, and only for that delivery.
You can stop the texts at any time by replying STOP to any message from Etta, and get help by replying HELP or writing to hello@ettacalls.com. Message frequency varies with your call schedule — roughly one message per scheduled check-in. Message and data rates may apply. Full details are in our terms and conditions.
Who else ever sees this
Only the people your parent approved, and the vendors who make the service technically possible:
- Telephony and messaging — to place calls and deliver texts.
- The voice-agent and AI model providers — to hold the conversation and write the summary.
- Our hosting and database provider — to store the account and the call history.
- Stripe — to process subscription payments.
Each is bound to use the data only to provide their service to us. Beyond that, we disclose information only when the law compels it, or when there is a genuine, immediate safety emergency and disclosure is needed to protect someone's life.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
Consent, and who gets to withdraw it
The person receiving the calls holds the deciding vote. Nothing begins until they personally say yes on a recorded setup call. They can end it at any moment by telling Etta to stop, on any call — calls end immediately, the subscription cancels, and the family is told. Being the account holder does not override that.
How long we keep it
Call recordings and transcripts are kept while the service is active so we can produce trends, and deleted within 90 days of the account closing. Consent records are kept for four years after the service ends, because messaging and calling regulations require us to be able to prove consent was given. Billing records are kept as long as tax law requires.
Your choices
You can ask us for a copy of the data we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Depending on where you live you may have a formal right to do so; we honour these requests regardless of where you live. Write to hello@ettacalls.com and a person — not a form — will answer. We will not treat you differently for asking.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is limited to the people who need it to run the service, and the family view is reachable only through a private link that you can have reissued at any time. No system is perfect; if a breach ever affects you, we will tell you promptly and plainly.
Children
Etta is built for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we'll delete it if we learn we have.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that materially affects you, we'll say so by text or email before it takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
